Lonomia
marandovas - taturanas - churruscos - muchiras - gusanos flecha
Caterpillars of this genus are a risk for human health because skin contact with the anti-coagulant toxins found on their bristles produce haemorrhagic syndromes that can produce intracerebral bleeding, acute renal failure and death. Most of the studies related to Lonomia caterpillars have focused on their effect on human health, leaving aside the ecological factors that can trigger or prevent accidents with them. Although several natural enemies have been detected, none of them have been sufficiently studied to be used as biocontrol.
